For Public Release by Atoka Public Schools
After receiving communication from our legal representation today, and for the purpose of transparency:
Atoka Public Schools was the victim of a cybertheft involving a fraudulent ACH wire payment. The amount of the ACH payment was $253,595.00. APS immediately reported the incident to the proper authorities and has secured legal representation in an effort to recover the funds through insurance coverage. As APS is waiting for legal process of recovery, district administration does not anticipate any change in operations of the general fund. All data related to student and personnel remains secure. The incident involved an outside vendor hired by the school.
