The Atoka High School Humanities classes taught by Patricia Hansen are pleased to announce that they received a grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation Fund for $3820. 03. These funds allowed Mrs. Hansen to purchase 11 piano keyboards and 20 instruction books to teach 25 Humanities students how to read music and play the piano. Other art supplies purchased include watercolor paper, poster board, paint, brushes, pastels, glue, etc. This year-long class teaches students grades 9-12 art, music, architecture, drama, dance, and theater. "We are so pleased to have received this grant and appreciate the support of the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation, " says Mrs. Hansen. "This class gives students an introduction to the fine arts and an opportunity to learn new skills."
Atoka High School offers students a wide selection of fine arts classes, including Art Studio, performing choir, theater, the Atoka Marching Band, concert band, and guitar classes. For a smaller, rural school, Atoka High School has a lot to offer. Many of our students receive scholarships and continue their study of the fine arts.
The Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation was established in 1995 by the late Carolyn Watson, CEO and chairman of Shamrock Bank, N.A. Since its establishment, the Foundation has provided more than $3.8 million to schools, charitable organizations, and state and local government entities working to improve the quality of life in rural Oklahoma communities. Grants are administered by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. For more information, visit www.occf.org/rural.
